Work out who is paying for the gown and how much are they willing to pay. This will work wonders for you as you will go to appointments with a clear mind set.
2. Start early
Gowns can take anywhere between 3-6 months before they are ready and it takes further fittings and alterations to get it perfectly suited for you. An early start is the way to go.
3. Research Suppliers
Instagram and Pinterest are amazing places to get started. Pick a few fav keywords that best suit you. Create a list of your fav styles and save them for reference.
4. Less is more
While trying heaps of gowns and dresses can be exciting and appealing at first however trust me, eventually it will get exhausting. If you can bring it down to 3-5 of your fav designers and 2-3 gowns for trials from each of them, then this entire process can actually not even be a process but simply a breeze. Yes it is back to school days, loads of home work needs to be done.
5. Trust your gut feeling
While doubt and indecision are a common aspect of this endeavour however you will know which dress is right for your, your heart will intuitively tell you, so trust yourself, as much as you are waiting for that amazing dress, that dress is eagerly awaiting you too…
6. What’s the right size for me?
Wedding dresses are customised to each individual Brides needs and alterations are needed to find that perfect fit, thus size is not a concern at this stage, go by the feel and vibe. Also think of the undergarments that would work best with the trials, get opinion from stylists beforehand while setting appointments.
7. Research Online Reviews
Before making an appointment and walking into a shop do a thorough research on them. Google Reviews and independent reviews will help paint a clear picture and will give you confidence that you are walking into a trusted place. Also seek advice from experienced friends and family members. Help is always at hand, simply ask without hesitations.
8. When is it best to shop?
If you can, try setting appointments for week days you are most likely to receive undivided attention from the Stylists. Salons are less likely to be busy on a weekday as opposed to weekends when they are packed and crowded.
9. Who do i go with?
Your most trusted people. Narrow it down to 2-3 individuals, check with the Salon what what their COVID policy is and go by it.
10. Can I take pictures?
This would be the most ideal thing as it would give you the ability to compare and share it with close friends and family members, however lately more and more designers are getting super cautious of their designs being replicated therefore please make sure to ask before you take pictures.
11. Be organised
Set reminders on your calendar and save dates for trials, alterations and fitting appointments.
12. Budget for your accessories
Shoes, jewellery, veil etc. Are they part of your dress budget or are they separate?
